AMERICAN DERRINGER MODEL 1
A backup pistol designed for last resort protection.   The weapon loads by swiveling the barrels
up to extract the rounds and feed new ones.  It comes in nearly every caliber,
from .22 short to .44 magnum and 410 shotshell.

Q Evaluation:
The Derringer is adequate for an emergency situation, but for anything more
escape might be the order of the day.  At close range, the Derringer might work as an execution weapon.
 

BERETTA 92SFB/93R
The 92 is a popular sidearm for police and is the US military standard.  The weapon is
chambered for 9mm and has a ported ejection gate to prevent feed jams and has low recoil
and a fast rate of fire.  The 93R is a selective, semi-auto or burst-fire version that is used mostly
by Italian secret service.

Q Evaluation:
An excellent police weapon, the Beretta is reasonable powerful, has good ammunition
capacity, but is too large for covert work.  Despite this, the CIA occasionally
issues the Beratta due to the ample supply the US government has procured.
 

BREN TEN 10mm
Though no longer in production, the Bren distinguished itself as one of the
finest pistols ever made.  It was designed to be the perfect combination of the power of the old .45
and capacity and rate of fire of the 9mm; the result was the 10mm cartridge, the equivalent of
a .41 magnum.  Extra magazines for this pistol are hard to come by and often must be specially made.
 This is a ‘signature’ gun and not recommended for covert operations.

Q Evaluation:
The Bren was a noble experiment:  a high capacity, high powered, accurate, and robust handgun.  Despite
it’s size-about the same as the Beretta 92-the Bren was a favored piece of 002.  The 10mm round
has real potential, however many found the recoil unmanageable, and none of the platforms
are small enough for covert use.
 

BYRON CSP
The Byron is made in England for SIS officers who need to carry weaponry through detector equipment.
 Made out of high-impact plastic and light alloys, the Byron is nearly undetectable, save by
visual/contact search.  The ammunition is 4.7mm caseless and the projectile is a fragmenting
ceramic ball.

Q Evaluation:
 The Byron was originally chambered in 9mm Parabellum, however the ammunition was still often
picked up by metal detectors, even using aluminum casing.  The 4.7 round was created for
use in close quarters without secondary impact.  The fragmentation quality of the ceramic creates
massive trauma, however, making it an excellent assassination weapon,
but completely ineffective versus vehicles.
 

COP 357 MAGNUM
This is a backup weapon or self-defense weapon with some punch.  The four-barrels are
actuated with a rotating firing pin.  It is loaded by cracking open the breech and swiveling it down.
 An all-around excellent light weapon.

Q Evaluation:
The COP is a favorite backup weapon for police officers and also as an issue weapon for the CIA.
 It is often preferred over the Glock and Beretta by many agents for undercover or assassination work.
 

DESERT EAGLE
The premier magnum autoloader, the Desert Eagle comes in .357, .41, .44 magnum, as well as
.50 AE.  Newer versions of the weapon have interchangeable barrels to allow switching out caliber.
 A great hunting/sporting gun, this is not a covert weapon by any stretch of the imagination.

Q Evaluation:
Too big, too heavy, and too loud, but bloody fun to shoot.  It has the most natural aim I’ve ever
encountered and works well for big and small hands.  For power and accuracy, it is a wonderful
weapon, however, and has become popular with gang types for it’s distinctive, aggressive appearance.
 

FABRIQUE NATIONALE FIVESEVEN
Designed around the potent 5.7mm round ofr the P90, the FiveSeven has large magazine
capacity, a high power cartridge, and superb accuracy.  It has the same polymer receiver/alloy
slide and barrel of other newer weapons.

Q Evaluation:
The FiveSeven is the best new handgun to be released.  It is only due to it's unusual
round that we don't replace the P7M8 with this weapon.  Accuracy, stopping power, and
magazine capacity all make this a phenomenal companion to the P90 submachinegun.
 

FREEDOM ARMS .454 CASULL
This a single-action revolver much like the old Colt Peacemaker.  The gun is much more sturdy,
however, with the.454 round pushing twice the muzzle energy of the .44 magnum.  Primarily a hunting
weapon, the Casull has little practical use.

Q Evaluation:
The .454 is an incredible round that we have used in a target carbine.  The pistol is not good
for covert work, and requires a strong grip to control.  Despite this, 007 prefers this weapon as an
anti-vehicular weapon; often it is in a compartment in his issue automobiles.
 

GLOCK 17 9mm/22 9mm/21 .45
Famous for good reason, this Austrian-made pistol is the most robust of auto-loading pistols.   It is
double action only and has no active safeties, having only a trigger-mounted safety to prevent misfires.
The 17 is a full-size pistol,  and 22 a compact version.  Both are in 9mm,
but they have companion pistols -- 19 and 23 in .40 S&W.

Q Evaluation:
 The Glock is the most popular handgun for military and police use worldwide and with
good reason:  it is tough, hard to jam, not choosy about the quality of ammunition, light and concealable
in the compact versions.
 

HECKLER & KOCH P7M8/P7M13
A revolutionary design, the P7 series utilizes a squeeze-activated cocking mechanism in the
front strap of the grip.  This mechanism activates the slide stop, as well as allowing the hammer
to be triggered.  Without the grip activated, the pistol will not fire.  Otherwise, there is no active
safety on the weapon.  It is chambered for 9mm.

Q Evaluation:
The P7M8 is our main issue weapon for covert operations.  All operatives train with the P7
and all but 006 have used it.  The size, power, weight, robustness of the weapon proves
the company’s motto:  “In a world of compromise, some don’t”
 

HECKLER & KOCH P9S
One of the first of the new generation of pistols, the P9S incorporated many elements that would
be used in the P7; the slide stop on the P9S actuates the hammer, as well as decocking it.  This gun
was designed for competition, both in 9mm and .45 ACP.

Q Evaluation:
For a time this was our standard issue for the 00 section, but it was phased out in favor of the P7M8
and Glock 19.
 

HECKLER & KOCH USP COMPACT
The latest offering from H & K, the USP combines the polymer receiver and tenefrin alloy slide
it pioneered in the VP70 and which would later become popular in the Glock.  The USP also returns
to a more time-honored double/single action, Browning system of operation with an operator activated
slide stop and safety (ambidextrous or left handed offered).
There is a larger version of the pistol available, the USP.

Q Evaluation:
The USP Compact is going through trials right now to ascertain if it will be an issue gun to the
newly reestablished 00 section.  We will use the 9mm version, though the .40 S&W has much the
same performance.  The Mark 23 version of the USP is the standard issue of the US Navy Seal teams.
 

MAUSER “BROOMHANDLE” M1895 7.65 MM
One of the first auto-loading designs, the M1895 was produced by the Chinese until the late 1950’s.
 The original versions used a stripper clip to feed the ammunition through the ejection gate on the
top of the pistol into the magazine, but the later models were box magazine fed.  Other versions had
a shoulder stock/holster that activated an auto-fire mechanism.

Q Evaluation:
A nice collectors item, the Mauser is a fine sporting or pinking weapon, but it’s day is done.
 Some of 007’s opponents have used these antiques.
 

PSM 5.45mm
Very small and compact, the PSM is the length of a dollar bill.  The pistol is designed for
concealment and close-quarters assassination work.  Along with Makarov, the PSM was a standard
issue sidearm for KGB agents in the field.

Q Evaluation:
I rather liked the PSMs we’ve recovered from the field.  For the kind of work we do, this kind
of pistol is well suited, though a little anemic in stopping power.  Performance is still slightly better than our
own 4.7mm ceramic round.
 

RUGER P99
Made by the leading manufacturer of heavy revolvers, the P99 is a sturdy, reliable, though large handgun.
 It is chambered for 9mm.

Q Evaluation:
Some of the American agents like this pistol-it is remarkably well made and tough, but it is much
too heavy and large for real covert use.
 

SIG-SAUER P229
Used by the US secret Service and the FBI, the P229 is a popular weapon with law enforcement.
The controls-magazine release, slide stop, and decocking lever—are well designed for a right-handed
person, but lefties might find it a bit awkward.  Workmanship is top notch.  The P229 uses the S&W,
a lighter version of the 10mm round.

Q Evaluation:
The USSS and FBI prefer this weapon, though the CIA used the Glock.  Personally, I prefer the
SIG line of weapons; they are more comfortable to use and more accurate.  My opposite number in
Langley disagrees.
 

STETCHKIN 9MM
The equivalent of the US issue Beretta, the Stetchkin is a heavy pistol.  It also incorporates, in
some models, a shoulder stock/holster that actuates a burst fire mechanism.

Q Evaluation:
Like most Russian designs, the Stetchkin will take any punishment thrown at it and continue to fire.
 Accuracy is average, power is equal to that of a 9mm Parabellum round.  Mostly it is used by police and
internal security forces in Russia.
 

STEYR GB80
Though no longer made, the GB is one of the best autoloaders ever made.  The rate of fire is high,
the power very impressive for a 9mm, and the weight of the gun makes it very controllable.

Q Evaluation:
We’ve included this because it was 003’s favored weapon.  Though I found it too large for covert
work, she swore by the Steyr.  The large capacity magazine and high rate of fire, and amazing
accuracy saved her on more than one occasion.
 

UZI PISTOL
A miniature version of the 9MM UZI carbine,  the UZI pistol uses the same system, but in
a pistol-sized package.  The main market is bodyguard work and counter-terrorism.

Q Evaluation:
It seems everyone is using these..gangs, drug dealers, terrorists…the Uzi is the best weapon
system out there with the possible exception of the MP5.  We stock these guns for DGS agents and
the occasional hot work done by the 00 section.
 

WALTHER P99
Like the USP and Glock, he Walther is made of polymers and tenefrin, the Walther  is
9mm autoloader with several new features that make it unique.  One is the ambidextrous magazine
release, the other is the slide mounted decocking lever, and the last , the reconfigurable grip, which
can have the rear and front straps changed out to customize the gun to the user.

Q Evaluation:
007 pestered me into getting him one of the new P99s. He used it during the
mission against Elliot Carver and pronounced it the finest gun he’d ever used.  We got a test unit and
after some trials decided the gun was one of the best we'd seen in years.  The size of the
weapon, however, is a little larger than we like for covert work and our standard issue will
remain the P7M8 for some time.
 

WEBLEY MK VI
Standard issue to the British army from 1880 to 1955, the Webley .455 revolver, with it’s
distinctive break-top loading system, double-pressure proofing, and hammer-mounted firing pin with
rolling block safety make this the strongest, safest, most reliable revolver ever made.  Accuracy
is average, trigger pull on single action nice, but heavy on double action.

Q Evaluation:
What can I say?  Some things are built to last.  When I joined SAS, back in the day, the
Webley was still being issued.  My first was #2010, built in 1918.  It fired beautifully, took a
beating (we hammered nails with the butt), and never let me down.  I held onto it long after the
Browning became the standard.  I still shoot it regularly.

RIFLES, SUBMACHINE GUNS, SHOTGUNS
 

ARMSEL STRIKER 12 GUAGE
Another South African brush war weapon, the Striker uses a  drum magazine and
semiautomatic operation.  The Striker is particularly good at leveling multiple opponents.

Q Evaluation:
The South African Ministry of Justice allowed me to play with one of these shotguns.
Accuracy, rate of rate, and control are all good.  An excellent urban/police weapon.
 

ARES FMG
Used by US Secret Service agents on the presidential detail.  The Ares, with the push of
a button opens from a featureless black box to a deadly 9mm submachine gun.

Q Evaluation:
Another ingenious device from the Americans.  We have adapted the weapon slightly
and use them as well.  The Ares can be opened, cocked, and fired in under two seconds.  We
usually disguise ours as radios or some such thing.
 

BARRET 52 .50
The Barreta 52 is a powerful sniper rifle designed for long-distance and high-power.
The main target of this weapon is anti-material-light vehicles-and it is equipped with an integral bipod.

Q Evaluation:
The Americans sometimes use this as an anti-material or personnel weapon.  For
sniping work, we prefer the old Parker .308 or Walther 2000 rifle.
 

FABRIQUE NATIONALE P90 5.7 X 27MM
Designed for use by cooks, and other untrained military personnel of the Belgian armed forces,
the P90 is finding a home with discerning special forces groups.  The accuracy and firepower were
designed to compensate for inept, untrained firers -- in the hands of a professional, they are deadly.
The round possesses the same balistics as the 5.56mm NATO, but adds increased accuracy.

Q Evaluation:
It is supposed to be for cooks and other non-combatants, but the accuracy, tumbling
wound ballistics, and flat trajectory make is a perfect special operations submachinegun.
We are even thnking of exchanging our MP5's for them.
 

ENFIELD IW85A 1
Standard issue 5.56mm assault rifle of the British army, the IW85A 1 is a new generation
of battle weapon.  It is a bull-pup-style rifle; that is the magazine is behind the handle, making it
shorter in overall length and more controllable than traditional rifles, yet still retaining the barrel length
and muzzle energy.  The rifle also has an attachment for a bayonet that also has an integral wire cutter.

Q Evaluation:
The service standard of our armed forces, the IW85A1 is a robust weapon.  It's bullpup
configuration makes it well-suited to urban engagements.
 

FRANCHI SPAS 12 12 GAUGE
Made popular by the Terminator movies, this is a big, bulky shotgun with real attitude.  Newer
versions no longer have the folding stock, but have the pump or semi-automatic functions.

Q Evaluation:
I tried one of these things and was not impressed…the gun was too heavy to be comfortable,
the pump to auto action clumsy and difficult to operate, and it jammed on lighter rounds.  However,
there are some in the carabinieri who swear by them.
 

HECKLER & KOCH MP5K
The MP5K is the most popular submachine gun after the UZI.  It’s small size, manageable recoil,
and reliability places it among the best small arms system ever created.  The MP5K is chambered for
9mm and threads for a silencer.

Q Evaluation:
The MP5K is the standard-issue submachine gun of the British intelligence community.  Like
it’s larger cousins, this gun has almost negligible rise when fired automatic.  The accuracy is good
and the rate of fire admirable.  It also attachments for tactical flashlights, laser sights, and the silencer.
 

HECKLER & KOCH PSG 1
A variant of the Heckler & Koch G3 battle rifle, the PSG1 has been modified for sniper use.
Chambered in 7.62mm NATO,  the weapon is a semi-automatic that includes a special system for
quiet, positive bolt action, as well as polygonal rifling to enhance power and accuracy.  The trigger width
is adjustable, as is the stock length and cheek piece, and a tripod is available for the system.

Q Evaluation:
The PSG1 is a superb weapon, what you expect from Heckler & Koch.  We like the
rifle for sniper work, though 007 prefers the Walther 2000.
 

ITHACA 37 HANDGRIP
The Handgrip is a short-barreled, pump-action 12 gauge shotgun with a handgrip stock.
The short barrel gives a wider spread than usual shotguns and the handgrip allows for mobility
inside closed spaces; an urban tactical gun.

Q Evaluation:
Nice in tight spaces, the Ithaca gives a wide dispersion that, as the yanks say, “clears
the room,” DGS uses them and so do we, sometimes.
 

SIG-SAUER 2000
A purpose-built weapon, the 2000 is a sniper for the discriminating shooter.  It
comes chambered for 7.62mm NATO standard, but also for 5.56mm NATO, .300 Weatherby
Magnum, and 7.5x55 Swiss.  The rifle is bolt-action, with a four round box magazine, a set trigger
that lowers the pull to a sixth of the usual weight.  A flash suppressor/muzzle break provides quick
reacquisition of the target, an ergonomic thumbhole gives enhanced control and
can be adjusted for left or right use.

Q Evaluation:
The SIG 2000 is popular with police and continental military agencies.  We haven’t
issued the SIG, preferring PSG1, but the 2000  is nevertheless a top-quality rifle.
 

STEYR AUG
Like the Enfield, the AUG is a bull-pup assault rifle made for the 5.56mm NATO round.
The aluminum alloy and polymer frame of the AUG makes it a lightweight, manageable rifle that is
popular with police agencies and the Austrian military.

Q Evaluation:
Incredibly tough and durable, the AUG is an all-around superior rifle.  The only thing we found
we didn’t like about it was the magazine catch, placed behind the magazine, which
necessitated taking the rifle away from the shoulder to reload. Otherwise, the accuracy and
steady hold made it the best shooting assault rifle I’ve seen in a long time.  007
 

WALTHER WA-2000 SNIPER RIFLE
Designed expressly for sniper use, the WA-2000 is a bull-pup configuration with a frame
that absorbs recoil and noise.  The action is behind the pistol grip and the ejection port can be
reconfigured to make the rifle ambidextrous.  Standard is Schmidt & Bender 2.5-10x scope,
and a folding bipod.  Every attention  to improving the accuracy has been thought of: special guide
rails for the ammunition, caliber specific rifling, and flutes to absorb heating and vibration.  An integral
silencer can be fitted to the barrel as well without affecting the accuracy.

Q Evaluation:
007 used this in recovering General Koskov from Czechoslovakia.  He reported amazing
accuracy and power, with a firm but not painful recoil.  The WA2000 made little noise and
remained steady under fire.
 
 

MISCELLANEOUS WEAPONS
 

ARMSCOR 40mm GRENADE RIFLE
Made in South Africa, the Armscor was created for riot control and bush warfare.  It is a
large carbine with a massive drum magazine for the 40mm rounds it fires.

Q Evaluation:
I had occasion to use the Armscor in Angola and was impressed by it’s ease of use
and superb ability to cause collateral damage.  007
 

GENERAL ELECTRIC XM-214 ‘SIX PACK’
This weapon was an attempt to mate the firepower of a vehicular-mounted weapon
with a man-packable capability.  It is comprised of a backpack-mounted battery and and 7.62mm
ammunition pack, while the weapon itself is made up of an electric motor and chambering system
that feeds ammunition up to 4000 rounds a minute through six revolving barrels.

Q Evaluation:
This weapon is usually found on light aircraft or land vehicles, but can be ‘humped in’
as the yanks say and set up on a tripod.  The system has several rates of fire, ranging from
400 to 4000 rounds a minute.  I saw a demonstration of the weapon and watched as it turned
a jeep into iron filings in seconds.  003
 

STEYR AMR
AMR stands for Anti-Materiel Rifle; the AMR is designed for long-range attacks
on vehicles.  The 15mm round is incredibly powerful, capable of punching through some heavy
armored vehicles, including light tanks and APCs.

Q Evaluation:
We have used the AMR in Afghanistan and in Kashmir.  The 15mm round tore through
a 2 ½ ton truck like it wasn’t there.  I also put a round through a Russain-made APC, with
devastating effects on the people inside.  It’s also bloody loud!  007
 
 

WEAPONS ACCESSORIES
 

AIMING PROJECTOR
Made by Heinsoldt and Heckler & Koch, these are 100 watt halogen lamps that throw
a tight beam of light for 150 meters.  The beam is bright enough to stun an opponent, and
the dark dot in the middle show where the rounds are going.  On a clear night, an observer could
see the spot of light, but not the projector.
Game Information:
Using Fire combat skill, the shooter can try to blind an opponent.  Any
success will stun them and give you that little extra time to take the +2 EF shot.

BLACK TALON/HYDRA-SHOK AMMUNITION
Black Talon (or Ranger XST) bullets open on impact, the spinning edges tearing a
permanent wound channel.  Hydra-Shoks create maximum hydrostatic shock, doing massive shock trauma.
Game Information:
These rounds add one to the damage result, except if they have  passed through armor.

GLASIER SAFTEY SLUGS
These are pre-fragmented rounds-birdshot in liquid teflon with a copper jacket.  Though they
cause massive tissue trauma, they are designed not to penetrate an airplane hull.  They will
not puncture hard cover or body armor and do no damage to vehicles.
Game Information:
Glasiers add one wound level to the target (LW becomes MW).

MAGNAPORTING/RECOIL MANAGEMENT SPRINGS
These are add-on systems to control recoil and make it more manageable.  Magnaporting
uses small vents in the top of the barrel to prevent muzzle rise.  Recoil management springs, like
the double spring system of the Colt M1991A1 Officer Model, or the filled recoil spring guides
on some SIG-Sauer pistols do the same by adsobing recoil or adding weight to the front of the pistol.
Game Information:
These systems add +1 PM to a weapon (up to +2 PM).  They also make the weapon more distinctive.

RECOIL COMPENSATORS
As with Magnaporting, recoil compensators reduce muzzle flip by a combination of
weight and gas porting.   Compensators are also used to give a pistol more barrel length-
hence more muzzle energy.  Mostly used by competition shooters, recoil compensators add
weight, size, and speed to weapon.
Game Information:
These add 1 to the S/R and +1 PM to a weapon (up to +3 PM), but also add +1 to CON and –1 DRAW.

SABOT ROUNDS
Mostly for rifles and shotguns, Sabot Round (or BRI) are designed with a jacketing
that breaks away on impact, absorbing much of the deceleration of penetration and sending
a rod-like inner projectile into the target.  The effect is sometimes called ‘spalling’, as the
sabot eaves break away to do secondary damage (in soft target) and the rod continues to
penetrate at high speed, causing hydrostatic trauma.  Larger version of the sabot are used in
anti-tank guns, where the sabot is accelerated to supersonic speeds, the round causing supraheating
and overpressure to pulp everything inside the vehicle.
Game Information:
Half any armor rating that BRI Sabot round are used against.  In an anti-material rifle
of 15mm or higher, the rounds act as an explosive inside the vehicle.
 
 
 

BODY ARMOUR
Below are the levels of body armour and the coverage they provide:

FRAGMENT-PROOFED
Negates any quality result of 4 on fragment grenades, shotguns with a DC of G
or lower (shot #5 or lower), or slug weapons of DC D or lower.  Lowers damage rating
of edged weapons by one (E becomes a D).  No effect to impact damage.
Main example: heavy leather jackets

LEVEL I
Light kevlar armor without ceramic trauma plating.  Lowers damage rating by 2,
1 for edged weapons.  No effect on impact damage.
Example:  under cover ‘t-shirt’ style armor.

LEVEL II
Standard kevlar body armor without ceramic trauma plate.  Lowers damage class
by 2 on all weapons.  No effect on impacts from falls.
Equivalent to Level 1 vehicular armor (as per original Q manual).

LEVEL IIA
This is a standard thickness kevlar vest with trauma plate insert.  Lowers damage class
by 2 and wound results by 1.  Does not absorb falling damage.

LEVEL III
This is a heavy-duty kevlar or ballistic plastic protectant (vest without trauma plate or shield).
 Lowers the damage class by 4, lowers wound level 1 for falls.  Run/Swim time is ¾ normal,
-1 to initiative rolls.
Example:  heavy kevlar; ballistic shield.
Equivalent of Level II vehicular armor as  original Q Manual.

LEVEL IIIA
Flak vests with trauma inserts or ballistic shields.  Lowers damage class by four, and
wound level by two (lowers wound level one for falls.)  -1EF to Dexterity, Evasion,
and Mountaineering rolls.  -1 to Initiative, half Run/Swim time.

LEVEL IV
Explosive protection gear.  Lowers damage class by six, lowers wound level one for falls.
Run/Swim is 1/4 and there is a -2EF penalty to all physical actions.  -2 initiative.

LEVEL IV B/C
Blast shielding (or Level III vehicular armor as per Q Manual).  Lowers damage by six and
wound level two.
Example:  fixed blast shield or heavy steel/chobham plating.

LEVEL V
Chombah armor tank armor, etc.  Lowers damage by eight (as per Level IV armor in the
original Q Manual.)
 

SECOND CHANCE DEEP COVER/PRO-TECH SAFETY FACTOR
Body armor resembling a tee-shirt.  It requires a PER 3 to spot and provides Level I armor

SECOND CHANCE MAX CONCEALMENT/SAFARILAND CENTERLINE VEST
The Safariland can be had with Level III aromr, but most are Level II.  Both allow for a trauma plate
insert, increasing vests to IIA or IIIA.  Spotted on a PER EF5.

POINT BLANK RAINCOAT/LEATHER DUSTER
A way cool look is the duster, and a similar type of armor can be had in a leather jacket.
All are a PER EF3 to spot and are available up to IIIB armor.  The heavier the protection is,
the heavier and hotter it is...

SOV TACTICAL VEST/FLAK VEST
Up to Level IIIA protection with sporty detachable ammo pouches, holsters, and other carry compartments.
